Monivea Minis win county final vs Claregalway

On June 6th 2016 12 young lads from Monivea RFC representing Athenry in the community games beat Claregalway who were being represtented by young lads from Corinthians RFC by two trys to clinch the county title.
Claregalway taking an early lead getting a try from a break down the middle of the pitch Athenry quickly shot back and ran in two trys with only minutes to seperate them. Trys were in plentyful as the half time score was 6-3 in favour of Athenry. The second half seemed to drag out for an Athenry supporter as possession was mostly in Claregalways hands but with only three trys scored in the second half Athenry walked away with a hard fought for win. Final score was 7-5 in favour of Athenry.  Athenry are the county champs in rugby. Unfortunately Due to an over lap in players and the fact the the Athenry community games Hurling team became county champs after beating Clarenbridge 2-7 to 1-5 the young lads picked the hurling over rugby as they could only represent one team. Best of luck to the young lads as they have sucured a place in the national final
