Another one done and dusted
A season of 50+ point wins, 1 point losses and cup winning try’s.
It's fair to say Monivea has had an exciting season.
Our 2016/17 season came to a history making end as some of our youngest lads winning bronze in the community games all Ireland finals.
It mightn't have been a perfect season but it’s one we can be proud of.
At the beginning of the season our U13’s didn’t look like much with only 7-8 payers showing to training, but with persistence and a lil help they built a team over the season and went on to make it to the cup semi final vs Creggs, after a dramatic quarter final against Galwegians. There Leauge went well with only one lose and a draw out of 8 games. They are a credit to there coaches and the club.
The U13’s really do spell a bright future for the
These young lads kicked off their season with a big win over Loughrea letting every other club know that Monivea wouldn't settle for anything other than a win. Going on to win the league undefeated and promotion to the A league they showed it wasn't just a once off by bringing home the first piece of silverware for the club. Not every team is perfect either, the boys went on to take two close losses in the cup and shield, knocked out of the cup by Galwegians in the first round and falling short to Corrib in the shield semi final.
Following a great season these lads were ready and waiting for another craic at a double title win, with only three losses out of 14 games they were definitely the team to beat. They fought right to the literal end as they narrowly missed out on both cup and league. They are the perfect example of fighting till the very end.
These boys show the provence everything good within Monivea RFC respect, fun, skill and determination.
Well done to all involved with this mighty team.
Jumping up to the a-league the lads where always going to be a challenge but they fought hard all season. These young lads were always enjoying their rugby during a match, at training or down the bog.
Having 6 lads represent connacht down in limerick during a school break really made these lads shine showing how much skill they really have fighting all the way to the cup semi final where they were narrowly beaten and had their season come to an abrupt stop.
Having the most up down season in the club these young lads got to a league final to narrowly lose out by one point. An unsuccessful cup run brought their season to an early stop but this team have some quality players coming through which is only going to strengthen our junior panel.
Both our junior teams had a decent run in their respective leagues with our 1st team finishing
in the top four to grab a AIL spot next season while our 2nd team are continuously doing better then the season before which is only going to continue with the young lads coming through.
While or 2nds lost out in a cup quarter final our 1sts did go on and win the Connacht Junior Cup on a sun soaked sunday vs Ballinasloe in the sports ground.
No club can have a perfect season but with memories made on and off the field, 2016/17 is a season the will be remembered for while to come.
From everyone here at Monivea RFC we wish our memebers, volunteers and supporters we thanks you for an amazing season and look forward to seeing you all in september
