Player Code of Conduct

Purpose of this Code of Conduct

This code aims to set out clearly the behaviours that will enhance the player’s enjoyment of the Game of Rugby and will enable players to contribute positively to a successful and winning Monivea team.

Players are expected to follow this code of conduct whenever and wherever representing Monivea RFC, - as it promotes healthy competition, sportsmanship, accountability, and overall good relationships within the rugby community.

On the Rugby Pitch

  • Play for enjoyment and become part of the rugby family.
  • Respect the “Game of Rugby” and play within the laws of the Game.
  • Accept the referee’s decision and let your captain or coach ask any relevant questions.
  • Play with control. Do not lose your temper.
  • Always do your best and be committed to the game, your team and your club.
  • Be a “good sport”. Applaud all good play whether by your team or the opposition.
  • Respect your opponent. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not “bully” or take advantage of any player.
  • Rugby is a team sport and make sure you co-operate with your coach; team mates and members of your club.
  • Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve your skills and feel good.
  • At the end of the match thank your opponents and the referee for the match.
  • Always remember that you owe a duty of care to your opponents. Tackle fairly, do not intend to hurt your opponent.
  • Winning and losing is part of sport: Win with humility – lose with dignity.
  • As a team sport it is important to understand that all members are important to the team!
  • Remember you are representing your team, Monivea, your family and the Game of Rugby.

Training

  • As part of the team it is important that each player attends training regularly and listens to the coach and helps your team.
  • Be punctual and on the pitch ready for training at the set time.
  • Be supportive and help team mates attain their potential at training sessions.

Fitness

  • Players should attend the club physical therapist or physiotherapist when advised by the coach and adhere to any rehabilitation exercises as directed.
  • In the interest of fitness, health and safety players are expected not to use illegal drugs or abuse substances or prescribed drugs.

Behaviour – with Respect for self and others.

  • Do not use foul or abusive language.
  • The club facilities are provided and maintained for the enjoyment and use of all club members. Players are expected to respect and care for the facilities and not to cause any damage to the premises or fittings.
  • Players will respect and care for any transport as provided, cars, buses etc and will be held personally responsible for any damage caused.
  • Players are expected to respect and care for any accommodation provided for them by the club, whether hotel, apartment or house.
  • At all times represent Monivea RFC in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Players will be held individually responsible for any damage caused to provided accommodation and in the case of shared accommodation the player’s responsibility will be individual and several. The club reserves the right to inspect such accommodation...
  • Any breach of the code of conduct will be ultimately dealt with by the clubs Disciplinary Committee
